The
eastern part of Thuringia is traditionally an
industrial region of
mechanical engineers. In 1841
Moritz Jahr already
founded a mechanical factory
including iron
foundry and
boiler making plant in Gera.
The location became to small.
For this reason the VEB
Maschinen- und Dampfkesselbau Gera
was founded on
1st June 1948. In co-operation with NAGEMA
Dresden
the product line was
enlarged to the construction
and production of equipments
of the drinks producing
industry and bottle
cleaning machines.
After the German Reunion the NAGEMA became the
Geraer Maschinenbau
GmbH. Parts of the product
range were taken over, but the factory
at Salzstrasse
went bankrupt in 1997. On 1st November
1997 the GM
and the LASER Blechbe-&-verarbeitungs GmbH were
founded.
